T
Did You Know
- • Born Samuel Timothy McGraw in Delhi, Louisiana — grew up believing his stepfather was his real dad.
- • Found his birth certificate at age 11 revealing his father was MLB pitcher Tug McGraw of the Mets and Phillies.
- • Had Tug McGraw's baseball card taped to his bedroom wall as a kid — not knowing it was his own father.
- • Got into college on a baseball scholarship — a knee injury ended his sports career and pushed him toward music.
- • Started college as a pre-law major after being inspired by the Al Pacino film "...And Justice for All."
- • Sold everything he owned and moved to Nashville to chase music with almost nothing in his pocket.
- • Fell in love with country music riding in his stepdad's 18-wheeler delivering cottonseed through Louisiana.
- • Flies his own Cirrus SR22 customized to match his tattoos, with wife Faith Hill's name detailed on it.
- • Wears his cowboy hat because he has what he calls a "fivehead" — not a forehead.
- • Tug McGraw initially denied paternity — father and son didn't develop a relationship until Tim was an adult.
