Bob Dylan's Boyhood Home RoadyGoat

1948

At 2425 7th Avenue East — the stretch since renamed Bob Dylan Drive — stands the modest house where Robert Zimmerman grew up. His family moved here from Duluth in 1948 when he was about seven, and he lived here until leaving for the University of Minnesota in 1959, a few years before reinventing himself as Bob Dylan in Greenwich Village. Hibbing sits on Minnesota's Iron Range beside the Hull-Rust-Mahoning pit, one of the world's largest open-pit iron mines; its booms and busts shaped the town's hard-edged character. (Note: this is his boyhood/teenage home, not a birthplace — Dylan was born in Duluth.) The house is privately owned by a collector and not generally open inside, though the exterior is a quiet pilgrimage stop.
