History of Niagara Falls

USS Croaker RoadyGoat

1943

This WWII submarine patrolled the Pacific and earned six battle stars for its service against the Japanese. Launched in 1943, the USS Croaker completed six war patrols, sinking numerous enemy ships. During its first patrol in 1944, the Croaker sank the Japanese light cruiser Nagara, a significant blow to the Japanese Navy. The sub continued its service, conducting reconnaissance and rescue missions in addition to its offensive patrols. The Croaker's actions contributed to the Allied victory in the Pacific, disrupting Japanese supply lines and weakening their naval power. Its success highlights the vital role submarines played in the war. Today, the USS Croaker is a museum ship, offering visitors a glimpse into the lives of submariners during World War II. You can walk its decks and imagine the challenges they faced.
